Yes, the idea of contracting with a private company for snow removal came up at the annual homeowners meeting. It was discussed that we budget for "extras" such as this situation, and the board will take this under consideration. It is not however, the responsibility of Rosemont homeowners to plow their streets. It is the responsibility of VDOT to ensure safe passage of all hi-ways and streets in inclement weather. With that said, we ultimately end up on the long list of streets to be cleared and we must wait our turn.
The board took the initiative to have the two hills, Aylesford and Whitecastle cleared after the last storm. We waited an appropriate 48 hours to allow VDOT to do their job. It was after this we determined it was time to take action and have the hills cleared. As with everyone else in a desperate situation, it became a matter of supply and demand. Every contractor with the capability to clear roads was working 'round the clock, and most of them were contracted with major corporations. We again landed on a long list-even in the private sector.
It was also noted this type of weather is uncommon in our area, as the last time there was a need for snow removal was several years ago.
We welcome you to join the board to serve on a committee in situations like this. Our board of directors will meet next month to determine who will be taking the "Grounds" committee as chairman. We would be happy to have that person arrange to meet with you to discuss the committee and responsibilities.
Thank you for your concerns regarding the neighborhood!
We continue in our effort to keep Rosemont regarded as one of the top most desirable neighborhoods in Chesterfield County!
